Building a magnetic power generator is an appealing prospect. After all, you have a device which runs without reliance on sun, wind or waves, and requires very little, if any, fuel to operate. There are several practical applications of magnetic power generators. We’ll review a few of our favorites here.

Powering your Home with a Magnetic Power Generator

There are essentially two different kinds of magnetic power generators: permanent magnet generators (PMGs) and electromagnetic generators. For the powering needs of an entire house, electromagnetic generators are more practical. They require a low voltage of electricity to get the magnets spinning, but have an output which is capable of powering the needs of a dwelling.

Small Applications for a Magnetic Power Generator

PMGs are more suitable for smaller applications, such as for a motorcycle, fountain or cell phone charger (although electromagnetic and magnet-assisted generators work fine too.) PMGs operate by permanently mounting the opposing polarities of strong magnets. They still require something to kick them into motion (i.e. an electric volt or a manual start) but once running, will continue to spin indefinitely–creating a limitless supply of power.

Can I Build a Magnetic Power Generator Myself?

Building a magnetic power generator at home is a relatively simple process, and can be done using tools which you may already have at hand. Because building any kind of generator is a technical endeavor, you should consider investing in a guide which will walk you through the necessary steps (unless you’re already confident in your technical expertise!)

Regardless of which style of magnetic generator you settle upon or how you decide to get it, the practical applications of this form of power are virtually limitless. Magnetic power is clean, green and renewable too, which makes it an ideal candidate for those seeking alternative energy resources.
